The Homeschool Bubble has been POPPED!

Ex-Homeschoolers Club Issue #3

What is good my ex-homies?

Another week, another newsletter! And we’ve got kinda a double issue happening because I took the week off last week.

The last few weeks have brought some really cool new homeschool friends into my world and if you haven’t heard their stories, I urge you to check them out.

Quick question! Do you have a homeschool story you want to share? Or maybe you know someone who’s story you think should be shared. Shoot me an email at [email protected] and let me know.

This week on the podcast, I sat down with Korbs to talk about what happens after homeschooling—when you step out of that structured bubble and into the real world. We unpacked the challenges of social adaptation, self-directed learning, and the surprising ways homeschooling shapes (and sometimes complicates) life beyond it.

In this episode, we covered:

✔️ The social challenges of adjusting after homeschooling – Navigating friendships, workplaces, and new environments
✔️ What homeschooling prepares you for (and what it doesn’t) – Independence, self-learning, and the real-world gaps
✔️ Breaking free from the homeschool mindset – Overcoming fear, embracing change, and redefining success
✔️ Funny and bizarre homeschool stories – The moments that stick with you for life

This week on the podcast, I sat down with Jenève, host of Homeschooled, to compare our eerily similar homeschooling experiences. We talked about everything from big families and unconventional education styles to the chaos of homeschool theater (and the very real existence of religious mime performances). Jenève also shared her journey navigating life post-homeschooling, re-evaluating her beliefs, and finding her path beyond the structured world of homeschool life.

In this episode, we covered:

✔️ The unexpected similarities in our homeschooling upbringings – big families, religious influences, and unique education methods
✔️ The role of theater, choir, and even religious mime in shaping our homeschool experience
✔️ The challenges of transitioning from homeschool to college and career life
✔️ Re-evaluating beliefs and personal identity after growing up in a religious homeschool environment
✔️ Advice for parents considering homeschooling – the reality beyond the idealized version

What I’m watching

We’ve lightly explored sex ed on the podcast, and I’ve been searching for a comprehensive resource to share with you guys and I may have found it.

Crash Course has just launched their video series Sex Ed. Each video delves into the complexities of defining sex, highlighting the diversity of human experiences and emphasizing that variation is central to sexuality. This educational content aims to broaden understanding and foster inclusive conversations about sexuality.

What I’m listening to

I thought I’d mix it up this week and instead of a podcast, I’d share the music I’ve been listening to lately. My friend Nate Bjorge of Wildered released the Deluxe version of Emezoz and it’s been on a loop in my house. If you enjoy indie folk, I highly recommend you check them out. (btw, Eden is my personal fave track)

Until Next Time…

As always, thanks for the support!
