Who knew there were Secular Progressive Homeschoolers?

Ex-Homeschoolers Club Issue #17

Happy Monday Ex-homies…

I hope your November is starting off strong.

As the year wraps up, I’ve been thinking about all the things I’ve learned this year. Here’s a few of my favorite things

  • The history of crochet

  • How to build a website

  • Breathing exercises to reset my nervous system

  • I suck at the game “Fall Guys” and I’m ok with that

What have you learned this year? Shoot me an email ([email protected]) and let me know.

On last weeks episode…

I sat down with Ashley Peek, a Texas-based homeschool mom, content creator, and founder of Secular Homeschool Revolution. After years of battling the public school system to support her visually impaired daughter, Ashley decided to take education into her own hands—and built something incredible in the process.

In this episode, we explore:

  • What it means to be a secular progressive homeschooler in today’s world

  • The challenge of finding inclusive communities as a parent of color

  • How Ashley built a thriving co-op and micro school from the ground up

  • Why sex education, critical thinking, and social justice belong in homeschooling

  • How homeschoolers can still advocate for stronger public schools

What I’m reading…

I’m still working my way through The Man Who Died Seven Times. If you missed my last newsletter, the plot centers on a grandson stuck in a 9 day time-loop where he has to solve the murder of his grandfather. But can he actually change the outcome or is grandfathers death fate?

While I’ve been a little slow at finishing this book, when I do pick it up, I get sucked in. There is everything you could want in a murder mystery. A little romance, betrayal, family drama, and origami.

If you want to keep up with my current reads, follow me over on Fable. I track all my reads and even leave some book reviews from time to time.

Something cool I found…

As many of you of you know, I’m a product of a christian upbringing. And while I’ve deconstructed my childhood religion, sometimes things from my past sneak in.

So imagine the can of worms that was opened when I tuned into the latest episodes of STRONGWILLED. A podcast dedicated to being Dr. James Dobson’s worst nightmare. I learned so much about the history of Focus on the Family and some of the dark secrets that most people won’t talk about.

Let’s just say, my journal has been filled with some pretty big feelings this week. But if you’re up for a tough conversation, I’d highly encourage you to tune in.

Until next time…

Peace & Love my friends
